Board of Directors

The Board of Directors plays a key role in the functions and development of Garden Partners. Members are volunteers who have a keen interest in the interface of the organization with the community. They are the organization's stewards who ensure that goals, objectives, plans and programs are aligned with the mission. They help set policy and provide financial oversight. Members are elected and serve a set term. The Board meets quarterly.

Mary J. Rowan, OTR/L, Board Chair and Treasurer

Mary, a co-founder of Garden Partners, is an Occupational Therapist, registered and licensed in the state of Oregon. She graduated from Pacific University in 1987 and has practiced occupational therapy for over 18 years in the areas of physical disabilities and geriatrics. In 1994 Mary’s vision formed: a series of unique, accessible garden centers where people from all walks of life come together to share their love of gardening. Since 1994, in addition to practicing occupational therapy, she has focused on creating opportunities for individuals to participate in meaningful gardening activities. As a result of this effort, she has seen the remarkably motivating and engaging effects of people-plant interactions.

Molly McEwen, MHS, OTR/L, FAOTA, Board Secretary

Molly's professional Occupational Therapy career spans over 30 years. She has worked in major medical centers, public/private schools, community social service organizations, and universities, also working as a private practitioner, professional school director and professor, and community consultant to social service organizations, industry and schools. Molly believes "anything is possible" and that nurturing the human spirit is central to health and wellness. Molly is a lover of animals and the outdoors—especially gardening.

Morgan Kearns

Morgan has had a 25-year career in the nonprofit sector, working on behalf of institutions that enrich the life and spirit of the communities they serve. She has worked to help inner-city teens find expression for their lives through the arts and served in various administrative capacities to further community enjoyment and support for music, theatre, art, and public gardens. She takes great pride in having worked as Campaign Manager for a six-year fundraising effort to create a botanical complex and provide endowment for gardens at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California. Morgan became an instant Portland "native" when she moved here in 2005. She is a lifelong gardener and believes that one can find peace, joy, and even oneself, in a garden.

Ruth Anne Moore, OTR

Ruth Anne received her B.S. from Oregon State College, and her degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern California. She has worked as an Occupational Therapist at the V.A. Medical Center and Emanuel Hospital in Portland. She has volunteered for Oregon schools, community programs, her church, and the Occupational Therapy Association of Oregon. She currently volunteers for the cancer program at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital and has recently resumed teaching English as a second language. In addition, Ruth Anne serves on several committees at Willamette View Retirement Center.
